Hello Professor Miller and fellow classmates. My name is Jack Mahoney and I am currently a sophomore here at UNE. I am from Cohasset Mass and was a 3 sport athlete in high school. I am fortunate enough to be a major in Sports Management with a minor in Business, and a member of the Football team. I am really looking forward to taking this class due to my prior experiences with public speaking growing up. I am also looking forward to learning new things that will not only help me prepare for life after college but will also make me a better person. Personally, I believe my communication skills are very good. I have always been known to be a very personable individual and can communicate with people in various situations. I believe my strengths include the ability to be very approachable and also having the ability to hold good conversation in terms of communication with others. In terms of what I could improve on with my communication skills, I believe I can be better at initiating conversations instead of joining them in social situations. I think that my worst case scenario when giving a speech would be if I began to stutter or forgetting what I needed to say. During middle school and high school I performed in multiple theatrical productions and once during I show I forgot one of my lines and the awkward silence of me trying to figure out my line is something that I never want to experience again. In conclusion, I believe that this Public Speaking class will be a great experience and I am excited to learn more. I believe that the skills that I learn in class will allow me to improve in the classroom and in life. I am looking forward to hearing back from Professor Miller and my classmates on how I can improve within the Public Speaking process.
